Golf Learning Center for All Ages

The Golf Learning Center provides patrons the opportunity to practice the fundamentals of golf. Patrons can perfect their swing mechanics, their chipping and their putting abilities all in one location – on the corner of Fort Sill Boulevard and Upton Road. The five swing stations allow patrons to improve their swing mechanics at full speed. The putting area allows patrons to improve their abilities to “read the putts.” All of the five holes in the putting area help the patron to determine subtle breaks in the anticipated path of the putt. The chipping area provides a great opportunity to learn and feel the differences of hitting from sand and hitting from rough. The Golf Learning Center is open for use by all patrons. Anticipated programming for the Golf Learning Center will include lesson packages which incorporate instruction of the fundamentals for all ages. Also included in future programming are golf camps in conjunction with Youth Services. Individuals who may not have equipment are encouraged to visit the Fort Sill Golf Course for potential rentals. Long-range plans are to continue developing programming to assist in providing family members an additional outlet to learn a new life skills and values resulting in a more resilient individual and family member.

Golf Learning Center Rules

Welcome to the Fort Sill Golf Learning Center

Currently, this facility is open for utilization for all authorized patrons and their guests. As we continue to develop and offer various programming within the facility, we anticipate there will be specific times designated for group use. These times are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons/evenings and Saturday mornings.

In order to maintain this facility in its newly opened condition, we ask for assistance from patrons in following the simple guidelines listed below:

1. Ensure all golf balls remain in the existing area designated as the Golf Learning Center. There’s no need for any golf balls to travel outside of the designated Golf Learning Center.

2. Individuals utilizing the Golf Learning Center need to ensure they are hitting in their designated hitting areas, and not attempting to hit across areas.

3. Flat-soled tennis shoes are to be worn at all times. There is no need for spiked shoes to be worn.

4. The Golf Learning Center is for improving Golf Skills. Please assist in ensuring all patrons are utilizing this facility for this purpose.

5. The Sand Trap is to be utilized as a hitting area only.

6. If you are in need of clubs and equipment these items can be rented from the Fort Sill Golf Course.

7. Should there be any questions regarding the Golf Learning Center, please contact Fort Sill Golf Course at (580)442-5441, or the Sports Office at (580)442-3269/5623.

History

The Fort Sill Golf Course wasn’t always the size or the location it is today. The original Officers’ Club Golf Course was nine holes and featured the first grass greens on post. The present day FSGC, designed in 1946, was heavily wooded and used by the Artillery Hunt Club.

The Fort Sill Golf Course is a parkland wooded course, rare to southwest Oklahomaand measures over sixty-five hundred yards from the back tees. Medicine Creek flows throughout the beautiful back nine of the Fort Sill Golf Course. Burr Oaks and numerous types of nut trees line the fairways. Historical sites lie in and around the golf course boundaries. Flipper’s ditch, which crosses the 15th and 16th fairways, and General Custer’s Bivouac, which was located on the 14th fairway, are testimony to the history of the area.
